The Fiesta del Calamar has become a long-term tradition, as evidenced by the 44 years it has been held in the capital of the Costa Dorada. An important part of these holidays is the fishing contest related to this tasty mollusk. So next Monday, November 26, the kick-off to fans of the fishing world of the municipality is given around this meeting organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Salou with the collaboration of the Nautical Club of the municipality. The festival that takes place around the fishing of this mollusk, is one of the oldest that are celebrated with continuity in Salou with 44 years of experience and that is made by the waters of Salou and Cambrils.
For the mayor, Pere Granados "we are facing a party that maintains the tradition of fishing in Salou and that remains and lasts over the years, with sailors who year after year are encouraged to go out to sea and with others, younger, who take over, "he said. The Councilor for Culture, Mª José Rodríguez also announced in this regard that "on Saturday, for the second consecutive year will open the contest to the smallest." Provided that the boat has sufficient capacity and regulations permit, boats can embark under 12 years old without having to count as a crew member and always under the responsibility of the employer and they must wear the regulatory life preserver ".
This party will be developed from next Monday as they mark the bases of the contest (attached). The kick-off will take place as usual at the Club Nautico from 3:15 p.m. until sunset. One more year the prohibition of curry fishing is maintained as well as a single category of participants with a maximum of 4 people (3 crew and the skipper). If the start day there are 5 or more boats of a single crew member, a second category of one crew member will be created.
According to the regulations established in the bases, at 18.45 hours the deadline for submitting the weight control ends. As it is already traditional, the start and end times of the fishing time will be announced with the launch of a rocket. Trophies will be distributed to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd, the pattern of each category and commemorative memory to the rest of the participants. In addition, the following trophies will be awarded: the largest squid - by the Yacht Club - and another prize for the one that fishes the largest number of squid - by the Fishing Society of Salou. It will also be awarded the gold calamarera to that employer who has won the contest for two years in a row or four alternates, starting in 2010.
The scoring system will be as follows:
- CALAMARES ............. 100 Points
- SEPIAS ..................... .. 20 points
- PULPOS ........................ 10 points
In case of a tie, the tie-break shall be decided taking into account the number of squid caught; and in case of persisting the tie, the weight of the same.
Once the party is over, a dinner and dance will be held at the Club Náutico restaurant during which the trophies will be handed out. This is scheduled for Saturday, December 1. The reservation and sale of tickets will be made in the Salou Club Restaurant, before Thursday, November 29.
