Salou. Costa Dorada. 28 August 2021. Every year at the beginning of September Salou relives one of the most important historical events in Catalan history: the departure of the ships of King Jaume I from the capital of the Costa Dorada towards the conquest of Mallorca in 1229.
This year 2021, and as a consequence of the pandemic, the shows and historical re-enactment activities of previous editions will not be possible. For this reason the
Fiesta del Rey Jaume I will focus on exhibitions, conferences and informative activities, which will alternate the virtual and face-to-face format, as explained in the presentation of the program by the
Councilor for Cultural Services, Xavier Montalà.For his part, the
mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has vindicated "the importance of valuing our historical and cultural heritage, of which one of the most important milestones was the stay of King Jaume I in our municipality".

A world in motion ', by Rosa María Guijarro Asensio, retired professor at the Jaume I Institute, in which it is explained that many travelers discovered, at that time, new worlds, beyond their environment, as they did For example, merchants, pilgrims, warriors, mercenaries, diplomats, ambassadors, artists, artisans, religious, students, monarchs with their courts and courtships, the poor, beggars, prisoners of war or outcasts.
For this free activity, capacity is limited, although no prior invitation is required.

Inauguration of the exhibition “1229: Mayūrqa Objective. Images, colors and memory of the medieval past ”. This proposal was born in the classrooms of the first year of Artistic Baccalaureate of the 2020-21 academic year. It is linked to "Images of the medieval past, reflections in the present of Salou", of the Jaume I Institute (pedagogical innovation project, within the "Apadrinem el nostre Patrimoni" of the Generalitat de Catalunya) and has been supported, in part, by two fruitful collaborations: that of the Salou City Council and that of the Museu de la Vida Rural de l'Espluga de Francolí (UMA program).

Digital gymkhana to relive the adventure of King Jaume I through the walk that bears his name. You start at the Luminous Fountain (Plaza de Francesc Germà), where you can capture a QR code to start the game. It lasts approximately 1 hour and covers 1.2 km during which you have to uncover 8 enigmas.
