Park in Salou

Park in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. 07 October 2019. Park for free in Salou, mission impossible? It depends!

As in many tourist municipalities when parking your vehicle, Salou has important differences depending on the time of year. Thus, the influx of visitors forces to activate blue areas of regulated parking during Holy Week and summer, but as of October 1 these payment areas are deactivated and become free parking areas.

In fact, in Salou there are only 6 streets where you pay for parking throughout the year. They are Barcelona street, Via Roma, Ciutat de Reus street, Via Augusta, the first section of Berenguer de Palou street and Scala Dei street. In total 227 blue zone places that between one time of the year or another only vary the schedule and the days in which you have to pay. These streets coincide with the most central and commercial area of Salou, so that the payment of parking is justified by the necessary commercial mobility.

From October 1 to May 31, with the exception of Holy Week, in the 6 streets mentioned above, parking must be paid between 9.30 am and 2 pm and between 5 pm and 8 pm, Monday through Friday. On Saturdays you only pay in the morning from 9.30am to 2pm, while in the afternoon and on Sundays parking on those streets is free.

During Easter and summer things change radically and in many streets and surface parking areas, where it is free to park for a good part of the year, they are activated as payment areas when leaving the vehicle. In addition, the hours to be paid and the days are extended, also including Saturdays and Sundays morning and evening. Thus, in many streets of Salou, when Holy Week arrives and summer you have to pay to park.

It should be borne in mind that the summer season, for the purposes of the blue payment zone, is from June 1 to September 30. During this time, and during Holy Week, you have to pay in all the blue areas from 10am to 2pm and from 5pm to 10pm every day of the week.

The capital of the Costa Dorada has about 2000 parking spaces in the blue zone, and of these 1000 are distributed among the streets of Salou. The other 1000 are in 4 surface parking areas that are also paid during Easter and summer. These 4 areas are:
  • Torremolinos Street, at the end of Carles Buïgas Avenue. We find the largest of the payment deterrent parkings of Salou. It is an unpaved parking area, regulated by parking meters, with capacity for 280 cars.
  • Paris Street: surface parking with more than 150 spaces.
  • Pompeu Fabra Avenue, large deterrent parking lot, with capacity for 150 cars, in an unpaved area and regulated by parking meters.
  • Paseo Jaume I (Two accesses). 522 seats on the surface
  • Confluence of Major and Balears streets, behind the Municipal Tourist Board building there is a small parking area, also on the surface and regulated by parking meters, with a total of 25 parking spaces.
The City of Salou has an app that allows you to pay for the blue zone without having to travel to the parking meter when you need to renew the parking ticket.

Parking card for neighbors
People who live in Salou and who have the vehicle tax (ICV) domiciled in one of the 6 streets with blue zone all year, have a card with 200 hours of free parking. On the other hand, those people who have domiciled the tax of vehicles in the rest of the streets of the municipality, will have a payment of 150 hours. This card is valid until September 30, 2020, and allows you to get a ticket to park the assigned vehicle in the blue zone until the available credit runs out. Once the balance is used up, the card will be automatically canceled.

To dispose of the card or recharge it, you must go to the Office d’Atenció a la Ciutadania (OAC) of the Salou Town Hall from 8.30 am to 2 pm from Monday to Friday. In addition to having domiciled the vehicle tax in the municipality, to benefit from parking cards you must be free of outstanding debts for traffic fines.

Interested neighbors must present the original ID of the owner of the vehicle or an authorization signed by the vehicle with a photocopy of their ID, and deliver the expired card.

On the other hand, it should be remembered that the ticket with the printed license plate must be placed clearly visible in the vehicle, otherwise it could be sanctioned.
