What to do in Salou during Holy Week 2024

Salou de Pasqua

Salou. Costa Dorada. 25 March 2024. If you have not yet decided where to spend these days of Easter holidays, do not hesitate and come to Salou. You can rest and do nothing else, which is a more than appealing plan, or choose one of the many possibilities that the capital of the Costa Dorada offers you. For example, relax on the long beaches of Salou or in its secluded coves, or walk along its beautiful Camí de Ronda also called Camí de Costa, in addition to many other leisure, cultural and sports activities that you will surely like. Here we leave you some proposals.

Easter Salou

Attention all chocolate and fun lovers! Salou has launched “Salou de Pasqua”, an initiative that promises to entertain young and old alike. And who has not ever enjoyed the excitement of searching for Easter eggs?

Promoted by the Shopping Salou merchants association, with the support of the town council, “Easter Salou” includes a gymkhana around the different establishments to find an Easter egg in their windows. The children will have to mark on a leaflet in the window which store they found the egg.

Whoever manages to find the 20 hidden eggs will be able to participate in a raffle and get various gifts such as summer activities in English, a chocolate figurine or a free haircut, all prizes offered by various companies in Salou. The draw will take place on April 3.

Mare Nostrum Cup Easter

From March 28 to 31, one of the most exciting sporting events of the year is celebrated in Salou: the Mare Nostrum Cup Easter. More than 9,000 soccer players from 11 different countries will meet once again in this competition that promises to fill up to 50 soccer fields in 19 different locations with emotion and talent, among which the Salou Soccer Sports Complex stands out.

Exhibition by comedian Andreu Buenafuente

Salou always surprises and this time it does so with the lesser known side of a beloved communicator of this land. And during the days of Holy Week, Salou hosts the exhibition “Territori Personal” by the journalist, comedian and producer from Reus, Andreu Buenafuente. Through a collection of unpublished works, Buenafuente invites us to enter his inner world. The exhibition is open to the public free of charge, from Monday to Saturday, from 6pm to 9pm in the emblematic Torre Vella in Salou.

Easter processions

Although no processions are organized in Salou during Holy Week, important processions and other interesting religious activities are held in nearby municipalities such as Tarragona, Reus, Cambrils or La Selva del Camp.

Holy Week in Tarragona is the most important in Catalonia, recognized by the Generalitat as a Festival of National Tourist Interest. Particularly noteworthy is the procession of the Holy Burial, declared a Heritage Element of National Interest, which runs through the old town of Tarragona. About 4,000 people from 13 congregations or brotherhoods participate, the oldest dating back to 1321 (the Gremi de Pagesos and the Gremi de Marejants). Here you can consult the Holy Week program in Tarragona.

In Reus, the Amargura procession stands out, on March 26, 2024, in which a representation of the Calanda drums has participated for years. Another unique procession is that of Silence, on March 28, 2024, and above all the Three Graces, one of the most authentic and heartfelt Holy Week events for the people of Reus, on March 29, 2024. You can consult the program here .

In Cambrils, Holy Week has another dimension, in line with its three brotherhoods and the participation of the two parishes, Sant Pere and Santa María. One of the most notable events is precisely the procession of transferring the image of Jesús de Natzaré from the church of Sant Pere to that of Santa Maria on March 26, 2024. You have more information here.

Another of the unique events of Holy Week near Salou takes place in Selva del Camp, a town 17 minutes by car from the capital of the Costa Dorada. The events of Good Friday, on March 29, 2024, are also recognized as a Traditional Festival of National Interest, and have been celebrated almost uninterruptedly since medieval times.

Particularly noteworthy is the busy Via Crucis to nearby Mount Calvari, at 7 in the morning, always very followed by photography lovers due to the plasticity of the images produced. Also notable is the procession of the Santo Entierro de la Selva del Camp, during which the Dance of Death is performed, of medieval origin and the only representation of this type in the province. Check the program here.

PortAventura at Easter

PortAventura is one of the main attractions for the whole family, and during the days of Easter the park and Ferrari Land dress up to celebrate the arrival of spring. The beloved characters ofe SesamoAventura welcome the little ones with a lot of joy, music, dance and many surprises.

Tribute to TV Clowns

Once upon a time there was a circus! This verse of the famous TV Clowns song will be sung more than once this Holy Week in Salou. And until April 1, the Riverplate Circus, a traditional circus led by Gaby Aragón Jr., will be next to the Elisabeth school in the town. A fun tribute show to the beloved TV Clowns on their 50th anniversary, which will surely entertain the little ones and delight the whole family.

In short, Salou at Easter is much more than the typical sun and beach tourist destination. It is a place where relaxation, fun, sports, joy and culture are guaranteed.
