Salou. Costa Dorada. 17 July 2026.
Salou has brought back an important part of its history with the restoration of the Font de la Duana, now once again located on carrer Barcelona. Originally inaugurated in 1828, the restored fountain is flowing again almost 200 years later, recovering a key element of the town’s heritage.
Built during the reign of Ferran VII, it became Salou’s first public drinking fountain and one of the earliest in Catalunya. It was also part of a period of major development alongside the Duana, Capitania Marítima, Espigó and the Salou-Reus navigable canal project.
Carefully preserved since 2006, the fountain has now been restored and integrated into the new tourist area while maintaining its original architectural character. Mayor Pere Granados and members of the local council officially reopened it by turning on the water.
The Font de la Duana also includes an information panel and a QR code, allowing visitors to discover its historical, economic and social significance.
