New train station Salou-PortAventura

Inauguration of the train station Salou-PortAventura

Salou. Costa Dorada. 20 June 2025. After 3 years of work, Salou has released the new train station called Salou-PortAventura. It has access through Joan Fuster Avenue, which connects with the entrance of PortAventura, and on 30 October, which gives access to the parking of vehicles of the station. The work involved an investment of 15.7 million euros, financed by the Next Generation Funds.

The station is included on the R16, R17 and RT2 lines and acts as the end of line 630. The work has been based on the construction of two platforms 240 meters long and 5 meters wide covered with canopies. The tracks can accommodate trains up to 200 meters long. In addition, it has 225 square meters of technical building and 1,000 square meters of building for travelers.

The car park has 210 parking spaces for vehicles, of which 12 are charging points for electric vehicles and 10 are reserved for people with reduced mobility. As for the accessibility of the enclosure, ramps have been installed at both entrances and some toilets have been adapted.

During the works, Neolithic remains were found, a finding that reinforces the municipality over the past millennium.

Connect with high speed

The opening ceremony was in charge of the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, together with the president of ADIF, Pedro Marco de la Peña; the delegate of the government of Catalonia in Tarragona, Lucía López Cerdán, and the delegate of the government of Spain in Catalonia, Carlos Prieto Gómez.

During the inauguration, on June 19, 2025, the mayor again demanded the connection with the Mediterranean Corridor, which is “the great pending subject”, through a branch of only 1.8 kilometers that would allow the arrival of high-speed trains in the municipality. At this point, Granados recalled that in 2003 the Ministry of Development already approved a railway project that provided for this direct connection, both in the direction of Barcelona and towards the south of the peninsula.

According to data from ADIF, about 300,000 users pass through Salou – PortAventura station every year, a figure that shows its relevance within the Catalan railway system. For this reason, Granados explained that “Salou is one of the cities with the highest volume of passengers in Catalonia and the tourist destination with the highest projection in the State. For this reason, we need optimal rail connectivity and a station that is up to what our city represents,” he said.

The mayor recalled that the implementation of the new terminal responds to a historical demand of the municipality, after the dismantling of the train tracks that crossed the city center and the transfer of the station.
