Salou prepares with the Generalitat the devices for the total eclipse of the sun
Salou. Costa Dorada. 26 February 2026. The City Council of Salou and the Generalitat de Catalunya are preparing the devices to facilitate and ensure the observation of the total eclipse of the sun on August 12, 2026 by all people who want to live this astronomical phenomenon, which has not occurred in Catalonia for 121 years.
Salou is one of the 20 municipalities selected by the Generalitat de Catalunya as an official observation point for the total eclipse of the Sun, and for this reason the Minister of Universities of the Catalan Generalitat, Núria Montserrat, has visited the capital of the Costa Dorada and has met with the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados.
In fact, Salou more than meets the conditions set by the Generalitat to choose these 20 official observation points, which are:
- that the duration of the observation of the eclipse exceeds 55 seconds
- that the population exceeds 3,000 inhabitants
- that there is good visibility of the Sun just before sunset, at 20.29 h, when the eclipse must occur
It is also the circumstance that the eclipse will take place in the middle of the summer festival of Salou, the Nits Daurades, which always attract a large number of visitors and tourists to celebrate in the holiday period par excellence.
In anticipation of the great interest that is arousing the total eclipse of the sun and the excellent positioning of Salou as one of the best observation points, the City Council and the Generalitat have already given some basic advice to interested people. These tips are:
- Arriving in advance to the observation points
